THE COST OF TRANSPORT 21


The following - Roads; Rail; Luas; Metro; Cycling; and Walking all play their part in forming the TEAM in the Alternative [Transport] Metro (ATM), known as The Circle Transport Plan. The Alternative Metro (AM) maximizes the abundance of existing transport facilities in the Capital with Land Use and Technology combining them into a fully integrated transport plan with direct access to all areas. They are equipped with very comfortable coaches/wagons. They may not be equipped with the latest high-tech adjustable sleep number beds, but they sure do have comfortable recliner chairs for you to nap on during your daily travels and retractable tables for you to enjoy those scrumptious meals.

The AM or Circle Transport Plan addresses the main flaws in public transport.

  1. The radial system all via the centre, (the BIG cost in public transport.
  2. Nullification - Under the radial system capacity efficiency is greatly reduced.
  3. Land Use Omission - Land Use cannot be maximized under the radial system.
  4. Overloads the city centre.

The main elements in the Alternative Metro (AM) Plan are:-(Note.: All can be directly accessed by clicking on each).

 

 

1. Circle Bus Plan (Quay Bus Contra-flow [QBC]).

2. Circle Luas Plan (The Luas City Orbital)*and* Full Luas Network Plan (Step-By-Step Diagrams).

3. Circle Rail Plan (Multi-purpose rail network "The Triangle").

4. Land Use.

5. Technology.

The cost of the Alternative Metro could be as low as one tenth of the amount in Transport 21 by using existing facilities - maximizing land use - no costly underground - avoiding duplicating - addressing the problems caused by the radial system etc, and technology. Any transport plan should

  • Benefit all NOT just big business  
  • Avoid waste and overspending when funding is so badly needed in many areas, especially country areas where public transport is almost non-existent.
All sides agree that Dublin's low density could not sustain a Metro Network. One underground line with the radial system is of very high risk if anything goes wrong, (i.e. The whole system is brought to a standstill). The Port Tunnell often brings the city to a halt but it has the safeguard as trucks can travel overground when the Tunnel is closed for any reason.This is why we have put in the multi-purpose rail plan (The Triangle). If a line is out of service for any reason there is an alternative route for trains to and from the city. Another major flaw with the Metro is that the line is confined to passenger use only. It also interferes with land and property values and levies etc, which interfere with the "market" pushing up costs in a competitive market that is not desirable. We have seen what happened when the developers interfered with the market by pushing up house prices resulting in a market crash of the economy that may take years to recover, resulting in misery for thousands of people and their families with loss of jobs and high mortgage debts. Waste of this magnitude must be stopped before our country is destroyed. The same people that got us into this mess are now pushing the Metro 'White Elephant'. The two options -The costly Metro covering such a small area and the Alternative Metro (AM) covering the greater Dublin Area at a fraction of the cost of Transport 21 MUST be openly debated to avoid another scandal that could push the economy over the edge with no room for return.

(TEAM TRANSPORT)

What do we mean by Transportation  Encompassing All Modes? What we mean is that we have set out plans on this website to show how we feel that all modes of transport play important roles as participants in the TEAM in an integrated way with the Circle Transport Plan. As you will see from our transport pages on this site, the combination of bus/rail/luas/dart/metro/bicycle/and walking, leaves us with a great transport plan that will ACTUALLY WORK. As you go through the various web pages about transport, you will see our alternative viable transport plan at a fraction of the cost of the proposed Metro and Interconnector underground plans in Transport 21, that is  more suited to the Capital City and that also has in mind commuters from outside the Dublin area.
